Getting ready for the I.V. not a fun time. I think it took over 2 hours, 4 or more people and 7 tries that night to get it in. And then in the morning they said it was no good and tried 3 more times to get it right.
Jaime came and was good company that night.
In the morning the second part of the induction started and it was not pleasant. The I.V. that was put in was off a little and kept setting off alarms every 5 minutes or so. The little guy was so wiggly that the external fetal monitor had to go and they went with the internal one. With the internal monitor I was limited to the bed pretty much so when the back labor hit I was an absolute mess. Since the beginning I wanted to be as drug free as possible.
Clearly you can see that I did not get my wish…
I got to 9 cm and they decided it was time for a cesarian since the little guys heart rate was dropping with contractions and he hadn't dropped enough to push.
Jaime even got to get suited up and go into surgery with us and be our photographer! We can't thank her enough for all of the pictures that she took.
Naveen sure is a proud and attentive Papa.
I was so completely out of it that I don't even remember holding Owen for the first time or most of the surgery. It really kills me that I don't have those memories, so all of the pictures that Jaime was able to take mean even more to me.
We had lots of visitors happy to meet Owen for the first time. Rebecca is getting her fill of cute snuggly baby time!
The Dr. kept telling me he was going to be a big baby and I was concerned that the going home outfit that Naveen picked out was going to be too small. Clearly they were wrong. Topping the scale at 7 lbs 1 oz he has lots of room to grow into his scooter outfit.
The discharge process at the hospital is ridiculous. After being there for days, all you want to do is GO HOME. You don't want to spend hours waiting for this and that to get out of there. I was super hungry and crabby by the time we left. Not to mention the pain that I was in and we still had to go to Walgreens to fill my prescription! Sorry Naveen, I was pretty bitchy.
Meeting more new friends.
Of course I had to test out my Wrapsody carrier as soon as I was able to. It really does work a lot better with a real baby. I tested it out with a stuffed animal, and then at 8 months pregnant I tested it out with a bag of sugar. It didn't feel quite right with the bump and all. So far Owen seems to love hanging out in it with me while I putter slowly around the house and out to the mail box.
My push present! (Or rather scooped it out of me present.)
Healing from the C section is going a little better than I thought it would. I certainly don't feel 100% but as long as I take it easy the pain is minimal enough that I don't really have to use the pain meds they prescribed. The key is to take it easy - something I have a hard time doing. I don't like to ask for help, I don't like to just sit around. It's not me.
